Police conducting a health check in an apartment building in Wheeling on Tuesday night found a dead woman and her one-year-old daughter missing.
Ja’nya Murphy, 21, was discovered around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday after officers climbed a balcony and entered her apartment at 356 Inland Drive in Wheeling, according to Deputy Sheriff Al Stephen.
Stephen said Murphy was apparently murdered and that her daughter, Jacqueline “Angel” Dobbs, was not home.
Stephen said police went to the building after they stopped working and had not been seen by relatives since Monday.
Wheeling police said Murphy graduated in 2018 from Stephenson High School and lived with her daughter in an apartment building.
