WordPress.com now offers website development

The business arm of WordPress (WordPress.com) has announced that it is entering the business of creating websites. This announcement was generally not well received by the WordPress web development community. But many people softened their response and got the chance as more information became available.

WordPress Business

People think of WordPress as a company that develops an open source content management system (CMS) called WordPress. But WordPress is more than just an open source development community hosted on WordPress.org.org.

There is also a for-profit site hosted on the WordPress.com domain that offers domain name registration in addition to website hosting and other related services.

WordPress.com is part of a larger repository of business-related businesses that are under an automated umbrella.

Sister sites that run automatically include WooCommerce, Gravatar, Jetpack and Akismet among others.

The automatic slogan is:

“We don’t make software for free, we make it for freedom.”

Created by WordPress.com

Web Development Community Answers

An important issue in society is the perception that the web development community has helped create WordPress. Turning and confronting WordPress is like using your work against them.

One person tweeted:

“Look, the business model of Automatic has changed. Feel for the developers that this will have an effect. While WordPress was built by WordPress.[dot]The work platform and the management of the project, it is the unpaid giant community that created it and gave it the market they market and capitalize on.

Someone else compared Automatic and WordPress to Amazon and how Amazon developed its products to compete with retailers selling on its platform.

The second problem is that the open source wordpress.org project domain name goodwill has been automated by the use of the WordPress brand, potentially confusing users who may not even know that WordPress.com is from WordPress.org. Is different

WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg said the product aims to compete with companies such as Squarespace, where people can turn to entry-level businesses.

The goal then is to have a new business within the WordPress ecosystem as opposed to buying in wax and square space markets where there is no market for WordPress developers.

Others were looking at the bright side of the announcement to see if WordPress.com would open up white label work through these trusted agencies. Matt gestured that he was open to it.

The whole community was not against this development. Some commented that this does not compete with the WordPress development community, as it was about competing with companies like Vox and putting more and more Internet into the WordPress ecosystem.
