When you open the WhatsApp on another mobile device after a while, the app will download all the messages from the server and you will not need to connect your main phone to the internet. The company is also working on another key feature, which is the ability to transfer chat history between iOS and Android devices, and vice versa.
There is no official word on when WhatsApp will release Multi Device Support or Multi Device 2.0, but the company is developing and developing them.
