If you spend a lot of time using social apps, you become accustomed to certain UX patterns. One example is the ability to react to a message or post – think Instagram or Twitter DM – but you don’t see it with more traditional chat apps. WhatsApp would like to change that, and is working to respond to messages on its app.

According to WABetaInfo, reaction functionality is currently under construction. Some users have received the following message informing them that they have received a response but cannot see it with their version of the app, suggesting that it is being tested internally or very With a small number of users who are not public.

There is very little work other than this message, but we can expect that this feature will appear in the next beta version of the app. Presumably, we will get a specific set of emojis to react to, although we have no idea yet how the WhatsApp will implement it. With Facebook Messenger, there’s a line of 6 responsive emojis that can be personalized, but you can only like messages on Instagram. I think the WhatsApp iteration will be closer to Messenger, but we’ll see.

What is your reaction to this news? I think it’s beautiful.
