West Ham United team They are said to be planning an audacious onslaught of Montpellier striker Gaetan Laborde before the end of the transfer window.
Laborde has provided a steady number of goals for Montpellier since his arrival from Bordeaux in 2018. Last season, he scored 16 goals and scored eight assists to finish eighth in the Ligue 1 position.
He also started the current season in great shape, scoring in his first three league matches for Montpellier.
Laborde has two years left on his current contract, and Montpellier is said to be willing to part with him for a fee in the region of €15m to €20m.
Gaetan Laborde to West Ham United – A good option for Moyes?
David Moyes masterminds to finish sixth for West Ham in Premier League Last season, which gave Hammers a place in the European League. But they have failed to add more to their squad since then and are in danger of stagnating this season.
West Ham have only brought in Alphonse Areola so far, and they should now prioritize signing a striker. The sale of Sebastian Haller to Ajax in January left the club with only one striker off the field, Michael Antonio.
Antonio has been an inspiration to West Ham for the past few seasons, but he is vulnerable to injury. Thus, they need an extra striker to take some of the scoring burden off Antonio and act as a cover in case of injury. In this regard, Laborde’s move makes perfect sense.
The 27-year-old resembles Antonio in some ways. He is fast, powerful and can keep defenders on their toes with his clever movement. Labord is extremely powerful in the air. He won 3.7 air duels in every game last season and averaged 2.6 shots on target.
West Ham have strong wingers like Jarrod Bowen, Andrei Yarmolenko and Said Benrahma, and Laborde must fit in well. The Frenchman is also very versatile and can play anywhere across the front line. He has a good passing range and can participate in formative play. The ex-Bordeaux man also has a great engine and can push really high on the field.
Laborde is sure to bolster the front line at West Ham, and at around €15m, he’d be a smart signing.
