Updates on the death of a man in his fifties after being hit by a car

Police cordoned off a major city road this evening after the death of a man in his fifties.

Merseyside police rushed to Walton Hall Street at Stopgate Lane intersection in Norris Green at approximately 5.30pm to report an accident.

A spokesperson has now confirmed the death of a man after being hit by a silver Ford Focus.

More than six police cars are at the scene, between Stopgate Lane and Richard Kelly Drive, and a security cordon has been put in place at Crown Crossroads.

Traffic is able to traverse the landscape eastward, diverting other traffic away from the area.

Police said in a statement: “Shortly before 5.10pm, we received a report that a silver Ford Focus had collided with a pedestrian near the intersection with Stopgate Lane.

“Emergency services attended and the pedestrian, a man believed to be in his fifties, was taken to hospital with his injuries where he unfortunately passed away.

“We are working to formally identify the man and notify his next of kin.

“The driver of the car stopped at the scene of the accident and is helping the police with inquiries,” he added.
