UB40 Astro legend passed away suddenly after a short illness at the age of 64

His bandmates announced that UB40 legend Astro passed away after a short struggle with illness.

The Brume star, whose real name is Terence Wilson, passed away today (Saturday, November 6).

He was only 64 years old.

Astro left chart-topping boy band Birmingham in 2013 to join other founding member Ali Campbell for a new band – UB40 Featuring Ali Campbell and Astro.

The band shared the sad news on their Twitter account.

“We are deeply saddened and absolutely in love to inform you that our beloved Astro passed away today after a very short illness,” the heartbreaking message read.

“The world would not be the same without him. We ask that you please respect his family’s privacy at this very difficult time.”

His death follows the death of fellow bandmate Brian Travers, UB40 saxophonist and co-songwriter, in August at the age of 62 after a long battle with cancer.

As praised by his former group Fans of the musician also rushed to pay tribute, saying they were shocked and saddened by his death.

“So sad, so beautiful,” said Mary.

TJ Patterson wrote: “So sad RIP Astro.”
