This exercise is three times better for you than walking
There is no denying that walking is Great form of exercise. It’s easy, you can do it anywhere, and no expensive equipment or membership required to get started. And for many people, hitting a set daily goal, whether it’s 7,000 or 10,000 steps, is enough to keep them active and healthy.
However, new research indicates that there is exercise that is not only more effective than those daily walks but is three times as beneficial for your health.
2021 study published in European Heart Journal It followed 2,070 adults who took part in the Framingham Heart Study, and measured the amount of exercise they did using accelerometers.
What the researchers found was that moderate or vigorous exercise — defined as taking 100 to 129 steps per minute or more than 130 steps per minute, respectively — was optimal for the health and general well-being of the people in the study, in fact three times more than normal walking ( It is defined as a speed between 60 and 99 steps per minute).
“We expected to find that higher amounts of moderate-intensity physical activity, such as aerobic exercise, would lead to better exercise performance, but we were surprised to see that high-intensity activity was also more efficient than walking at improving the body’s ability to start and maintain lower levels of exertion.” clearer Matthew Nayor, MD, MPH, a cardiologist at Boston Medical Center, assistant professor of medicine at Boston University and Lead author of the study.

Moreover, Nayer’s team found that more vigorous activity may actually combat some of the health issues associated with a sedentary lifestyle.
“We have observed that individuals with above-average daily steps, or moderate-strength physical activity, have above-average fitness levels, no matter how much The time they spend sitting. Therefore, it appears that much of the negative impact of lack of movement on fitness may also be offset by having higher levels of activity and exercise,” Nayer explained.
So, if you’re looking to improve your overall health and fitness, you don’t have to replace those daily runs with an exercise routine – you might just want to up the pace a bit.
