The TikTok star has been charged with the murder of his alleged wife, a man, at the East Village Apt

A man accused of shooting his wife and another man in an East Village high-rise apartment building pleaded not guilty Monday to the murder charge.

Ali Nasser Abu Laban, 29, is charged with the murders of 28-year-old Anna Abu Laban and 29-year-old Rayburn Cardenas Barron at the Spire San Diego luxury apartment complex last Thursday.

Abu Laban is accused of two murders, allegations of using a gun in the killing, and a special circumstance allegation of multiple murders, meaning he could face the death penalty if convicted and prosecutors choose to pursue the death penalty.

Police were called around 3:10 p.m. that day and found the victims dead in the living room of a unit on the 35th floor of the complex on Island Avenue, SDPD Lieutenant Adam Sharqi said.

Sharqi said, with his 5-year-old daughter in the car, police stopped Abu Laban later that day near the intersection of Highways 805 and 15.

According to Deputy Attorney General Tarin Prast, Anna Abu Laban was trying to leave the marriage, in part because of a previous incident of domestic violence pushed into her by her husband.

On October 18, Anna Abu Laban asked her husband to leave their apartment, but according to Prast, he secretly made a copy of the apartment key.

Prast said that while his wife was away, he used the copied key to enter the apartment on October 21, sabotaged the unit, and then installed an app on his daughter’s iPad that allowed him to monitor live conversations inside the apartment.

When he later heard his wife and another man in the apartment via the app, the attorney general said he drove into the compound from the Mission Bay hotel where he was staying and shot the two victims.

After fleeing the scene, Abu Laban took his daughter from her school and at one point told her that he was “hurting her mother,” Prast said. The child is now in the care of other family members.
