The New York Times named Little Fox one of America’s favorite restaurants
After a year and a half marked by challenges, uncertainty, and sometimes sheer distress, Craig and Mowgli Revard had reason to celebrate. Little Fox (2800 Shenandoah Avenue, 314-553-9456)The Fox Park restaurant, which the couple opened together in December of 2019, has been named the prestigious restaurant New York times List of restaurants for the year 2021.
“During all of this you get really good at making unexpected things happen,” laughs Mowgli. “It’s nice that they go in that direction.”
New York times It published its annual restaurant list on October 12, placing Little Fox among the “50 Most Vibrant and Delicious Restaurants of 2021.” According to the paper, the restaurants chosen “reflect the rich mosaic of American food,” representing old and new restaurants from a variety of culinary traditions.
In his claim that Little Fox is among those 50 spots, author Brett Anderson describes Little Fox as the heir to the tradition of “a great bistro that’s overweight,” noting that Craig’s cooking leaves you “convinced he’s mastered choices with the best ingredients he can find.”
For the Rivards, this honor is particularly satisfying because it shows that they have succeeded in translating their vision for Little Fox into reality.
“We wanted it to be a modern neighborhood restaurant, and as short as the writing was, they obviously got it,” Mowgli says. “That’s the most exciting part – knowing that you put something in and have succeeded in getting beyond what you want to be.”
Although Rivards residents are excited about what the tribute means to their restaurant, they are also excited about how it will reflect on St. Louis. In Mowgli’s mind, they’re sharing the nod with fellow hospitality professionals who are all doing their part to make the city’s restaurant scene skyrocket.
“This only adds to St. Louis which is known for its restaurants,” Mowgli says. “This is exciting for everyone.”
