TSR Update: Authorities continue to search for 19-year-old Mia Marcano today after the person involved in her disappearance – a maintenance man working on her apartment complex – was found dead, apparently from a suicide.
Authorities say the suspect, 27-year-old Armando Manuel Caballero, showed a romantic interest in Mia, but the feelings were not mutual and she turned him down several times. Mia was last seen on Friday At her home in the Arden Villas apartment complex in Orlando where she also worked in the rental office.
Investigators later found that Caballero had access to a master key to the complex units, which they said he used to get into Miya’s apartment just 30 minutes before Miya left her shift, according to NBCNews.
Officials said the maintenance worker has been identified as a key person in Mia’s disappearance and an arrest warrant has been issued for Caballero for burglary and allegedly allowing himself into her unit.
Although his body was found Monday in his Seminole County apartment, it was not immediately clear when Caballero died, although authorities said, “He died some time ago.”
Mia is still missing and her family is said to fear the worst.
“Mia is still missing, her disappearance is suspicious, and it is clear that investigators and family members suspect a crime,” Orange County Sheriff John Mina said. “We’re still doing our best to find her.”
She disappeared just hours before she was due to return home in Fort Lauderdale to be with her family on Friday.
“Knowing Mia, she will never be in contact with them, she will never turn off her phone, and she will never let her phone battery run out completely,” Mina said.
Investigators own a silver Caballero Ford Fusion, but are hoping for more information, and have asked anyone in the area to contact them if they discover the vehicle over the weekend.
Mia is described as being 5 feet tall, 130 pounds, and has brown hair and green eyes.
Mia was last seen wearing a red T-shirt, jeans and a black jacket, according to the apartment complex.
Mina says the Orange County Sheriff’s Office has 30 detectives working on this case full time, but general advice is necessary to find Mia.
“No amount of information is too small or too important,” he said.
