The 99 SAR Tunnel in Seattle, Montlake Boulevard Junction will be closed this weekend
Seattle Drivers should expect delays beginning on Friday as many major roads are scheduled to be closed over the weekend.
All ramps connecting Highway 520 and Montlake Boulevard will be Closed from 10 pm on Friday to 5 am on Monday So that crews can install sewage, communications and gas lines in the area. Portions of Lake Washington and Montlake streets near the construction site will also be closed during that window.
It will be the Montlake Bridge Closed to vehicles from Friday evening to early Monday morning. The West Pier will remain open while repairs are made. Bicycles and pedestrians must follow turn signs at Northeast Pacific Avenue or East Shelby Street to cross the Montlake Cut.
In addition, the Interstate 99 tunnel will be closed in both directions from 10 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Sunday. Crews there will conduct regularly scheduled maintenance.
Despite the shutdowns, there is little good news for Seattle motorists.
First, there will likely be fewer cars on the road on Saturday and Sunday because there are fewer scheduled sporting events than usual on the fall weekend. The Seahawks played Thursday, the Husky had their farewell week and – tragically – the Mariners’ season came to an end.
