Terrifying moment, a gun-wielding Texas man shoots his deceased ex-partner during an angry child custody dispute

This is the terrifying moment a Texan man shot his partner’s ex-husband during an angry child custody dispute outside his home earlier this month.

The incident in Lubbock, Texas, on November 5 centered around a custody dispute over the children of Chad Reed and his ex-wife, Christina Reed.

Chad Reed’s widow, Jennifer Reed, has claimed that her husband was murdered by Kyle Carruth, who is said to be Christina’s new boyfriend.

However, police have not brought charges against Carruth over the incident with his lawyers arguing that the killing was a “justifiable murder” and was carried out in self-defence.

Through her attorney, Jennifer Reed released a statement along with the footage showing the moment her 54-year-old husband, Chad Reed, was shot and killed.

Footage taken by Jennifer Reed from a car on the street outside Carruth’s home in South Lubbock, shows Chad Reed arguing with his ex-wife and another man, said to be Carruth.

From the mobile video, it appears Chad Reed and Kyle Carruth are arguing on the porch, while Christina Reed stands to the right.

Kyle Carruth – who was wearing a black T-shirt and jeans – was heard telling Chad to read “to get off my property.” Chad Reed, in a teal T-shirt and jeans, nods his arms as Carruth turns to go home.

Chad Reed turned around, continued talking to Christina Reed, and told her he wanted his son, who was supposed to be in his custody from 3:15 p.m. that day, according to Jennifer Reed in an affidavit filed after the incident.

‘I’m supposed to get it at 3.15,’ Chad Reed is heard saying to Christina Reed. “But you’re playing telling me I should pick him up at six?”

The couple continued to argue, with Chad Reed suggesting that his son might be at his ex-wife’s mother’s house. He heard Christina Reid telling him she wanted to see him, to which Chad said, “I don’t care if you want to see him or not.

I brought him at 3:15. If you want to see it you can see it until 3.15. You are constantly trying to keep my son away from me, and I will drag you and Anne-Marie and everyone else to court.

Carruth is then shown walking out of the house again with a firearm holding it by his side and shouting “Go” at Chad Reed.

Hearing Chad Reed shouting, “Use it, Mama,” he confronts Carruth, threatening to take the gun from him.

Now head-on, Carruth fires a single shot to the ground at the pair’s feet, which doesn’t seem to deter Chad Reed, who continues to press against Carruth.

Suddenly, Carruth jumped off the balcony, raised his rifle and fired two shots at Chad Reed, who fell to the ground.

Carruth returns to the balcony and turns to face the camera. Still holding the gun, he wiggles his finger while Jennifer Reed is heard saying “I have it in Kyle’s video.”

“I asked you all to leave,” she heard Carruth telling her that his son was not home. “None of you should be here, I asked you to leave. You’ve done everything. I didn’t want to do any of this.”

No charges have been brought against Carruth over the incident. Carruth’s attorney, David Gwen, told KCBD that the shooting was done in self-defence, saying Chad Reed was trespassing on his property, citing the castle doctrine.

Jennifer Reed is now suing for custody of her children.
