StoryCast ’21: “The Singer Amy Winehouse Wasn’t the Amy I Knew” | Ents & Arts News
Dionne Broomfield, daughter of Amy Winehouse, provided fascinating insight into the late singer as part of a new Sky News podcast.
Friday 23 July marks ten years since Winehouse was found dead of alcohol poisoning at her home in Camden, North London. She was only 27 years old.
The five-time Grammy Award-winning star made a public appearance just three days before her death in 2011, when she took to the stage in support of her 15-year-old great-daughter, who made her Camden Roundhouse debut.
Broomfield, who is now a well-known singer, has not spoken deeply about her close relationship with the music icon. However, the 25-year-old gave a fresh, nuanced perspective on “Onstage with Amy Winehouse” – a podcast she agreed to record to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the singer’s death.
“I didn’t associate singer Amy Winehouse with Amy,” she says. “I’ve never seen Amy as a star.”
Onstage with Amy Winehouse is the tenth episode of StoryCast ’21, the Sky News podcast series that tells 21 stories from 2000 to 2001.
StoryCast ’21 21 tells the personal story of some of the century’s biggest news events.
