Stone’s heartbreaking post comes after the announcement that she won the Golden Icon award at the Zurich Film Festival.
She is due to receive the honor next month at the festival, according to the Hollywood Reporter, with an awards ceremony and then a screening of her 1996 movie “Casino,” for which Stone received an Academy Award nomination.
Speaking of the award, Stone said, “It is a great honor to connect with the global community and to celebrate the profound depth of our art.”
“I am thrilled to be recognized in this capacity,” she added.
Zurich Film Festival artistic director Christian Jungen described Stone as “a woman Hitchcock loved” and “a true icon of the seventh art” in a statement.
Honor: Sharon is set to receive the Golden Icon award at this year’s Zurich Film Festival
“Her defining qualities include irresistible charm, great human depth, a talent for playing a full range of roles and the ability to appeal to an audience like no other,” Jongin said.
“At a time when the film industry was dominated by men, she was standing up for her stand to fight sexism, and in doing so she became a prime role model for many women in the film industry.”
The festival praised Stone’s versatility, noting that she “refused to be printed as a human-eating patch” after her “superhero role” in the 1992 classic Basic Instinct.
“Indeed, the actress, whose memoir recently addressed Hollywood’s problems in the New York Times bestseller The Beauty of Living Twice, has proven to be a hugely versatile personal actress,” festival organizers said.
Stone, who has three teenage sons – 21-year-old Rowan, 16-year-old Laird, and 15-year-old Quinn – is the fifth actress to receive the Gold Icon Award.
Previous artists who have received this honor include Cate Blanchett, Glenn Close, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Douglas, Richard Gere and Sean Bean.
Joy: Speaking of the honor, Sharon said she is ‘happy’ to accept the award at the gala next month that will feature her 1996 Oscar-nominated movie Casino.
