Raye and Polydor ‘partially knock’ after singer claims record company won’t allow her to release an album | Ents & Arts News
Brit-nominated singer Ray has split from her record label after claiming she wasn’t allowed to release an album.
23 years, who has signed with Polydor since 2014, blamed the split on “technically different goals” in a statement posted to Instagram and Twitter on Monday night.
“Today I am speaking to you as a freelance artist,” she wrote.
“Polidor and I have talked and agreed to separate.
“I want to say a big thank you to Team Polydor, and all the individuals who fought for me, believed in me and worked so hard for me over the years.
“Polidor is a great infrastructure team, unfortunately we have different goals technically and I am very grateful to them for giving me a graceful and smooth exit to start my next chapter as an artist.”
She wrote in the post: “Just a little Croydon girl with a dream.”
At the end of June, the singer shared a series of emotional tweets in which she said she was “sick of sleeping” by Polydor.
Ray, real name Rachel Agatha Kane, He claimed the company was blocking her from releasing an album, despite signing a four-record deal seven years ago.
“For context, in order to create an album, the company has to release money for finishing songs, producers fees, mixes, masters, marketing support, etc… I have waited 7 years for this day and I am still waiting.
“Now I am told if he calls me [her latest single] Well I can make my album but there can’t be even a green light. Imagine the stress of waking up every day looking madly at numbers and stats hoping I could make my first blood album. “
She said she refused to suffer in silence any longer, adding, “I’ve done everything [the record label] She asks me, I change genres, I work 7 days a week, I ask anyone in the music game, they know. I’m done being a polite pop star. I want to make my album now, please that’s all I want.”
She also revealed that she will be temporarily taking a hold on promotions for Call On Me, which was released in June.
“I’m supposed to be in the Call On Me promotional mode but I don’t have the strength to promote this record at the moment,” she wrote on Twitter.
“I’m going away for a while and leave my phone behind. Keep streaming and share this song for me. I love you.”
Last year, the singer released a nine-track “mini-album”, Euphoric Sad Songs, with five albums to her name, dating back to 2014.
She topped her own tour in 2018, supporting the likes of Jess Glenn, Halsey, and Khaled on their shows.
Earlier this year, it was nominated for Best British Single at the Brit Awards for its 2020 track with Regard, Secrets – but it won the trophy by Harry Styles with Watermelon Sugar.
