Queens Park Rangers 1-0 Huddersfield Town: Rookie contender for R thanks to winner Luke Amos

Luke Amos celebrates QPR winner

Luke Amos’ late goal gave Queens Park Rangers an important victory over fellow hopefuls to climb Huddersfield Town, lifting them to fourth place.

It took 80 minutes for the breakthrough to come in an entertaining, open encounter, with Chris Willock dancing his way down the right and swinging into a perfect cross for Amos to volley into the net under the nose of Terrier Lee Nicholls’ goalkeeper.

Both sides contributed to a tide in the 45-minute start, with Ole Turton giving goalkeeper Sene Dieng a save in the first few minutes while Yuan Barbet headed Huddersfield’s bar with a corner kick.

It could be argued that Team R shaded the second half as Stefan Johansen in particular took control with sharp passes and clever movement.

Huddersfield made it to the break, as Daniel Sinani and Josh Koroma got chances that Deng didn’t really test.

On the other hand, Nichols turned Charlie Austin’s poor effort around the post and Elias Kersi did well when he played in it, but Amos’ header finally ended the guests’ resistance and earned Mark Warburton’s team a third win in four games.

More to track.
