FOXBORO (CBS) – For the second time in recent days, the football world has reacted to the news of Tom Brady’s retirement. This time, however, it’s official.

“It’s hard for me to write, but here it goes: I’m not going to make that competitive commitment anymore. I loved my NFL career, and now it’s time to focus my time and energy on other things that demand my attention,” Brady wrote.

With Brady officially retired, he is a confirmed inductee into the Professional Football Hall of Fame, which has indicated that the 7-time Super Bowl champion will be eligible in 2027.

Peyton Manning, Brady’s number one competitor in many of their storied jobs, issued a statement Through his own production company.
“Congratulations to my friend Tom on an incredible football career,” Manning wrote. “Doing so as long as he has done, at the highest levels is absolutely incredible. It has been an honor and a privilege to compete with him on the field, and I truly appreciate his friendship off the field. I have always admired and respected his competitiveness, dedication, discipline and commitment to being the best. I wish him well in the next chapter.” Congratulations again, pal!”
Bridget Moynahan, who is the mother of Brady’s eldest son Jack, responded to the news as well.
“So proud of TomBrady. Yesterday and today I know you will do great things tomorrow. Looking forward to the next steps,” she tweeted.
