Olympics 2021: Simon Byles withdraws from floor exercise final
Simon Byles has withdrawn from the finals of Monday’s Gymnastics Floor Exercise, an event for which he won a gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The only event left in the Byles Olympic schedule is Tuesday’s Balance Beam final.
Considered to be the greatest gymnast ever, Byles surprised the world last week when she dropped out of the women’s gymnastics team citing mental health concerns. He followed it out of the individual four-way finals, followed by the vault and uneven bar finals.
In the wake of his first comeback last Tuesday, Byles said he was not in the right mood to compete. “I felt it would be a little better to take a backseat, work on the mindset and I knew the girls would do a great job and I didn’t want to risk the team’s medal,” Byles said. A press conference.
