Officials say Huntington Schools, Town Hall have closed their doors after the Hecksher Park shooting report

All Huntington Public Schools, along with Town Hall and the Great Local Center, were closed Monday morning due to a report of a shooting in Heckscher Park, borough and school district officials said.

School District Superintendent Jim Polanski sent a recorded message to parents Monday after receiving reports from District Two of the Suffolk County Police Department of “alleged gunshots” in Hecksher Park.

“The police are on the hunt right now,” Polanski said. “As a precaution, all Huntington schools will be placed on lockdown, which means there will be no entry or exit to schools until they have been approved by SCPD. Please do not inform schools. More information will be shared upon receipt.”

There was no immediate comment from Suffolk Police and no details of the incident were provided.

Andy Raya, a town clerk for Huntington, said he was on his way to Town Hall when he received an email at 9:55 a.m. that “Town Hall and First Center have been closed out of great caution due to a possible shooting in Heckscher Park, so far it appears that No one is hurt “.

He said he turned around and went home and didn’t get another update.
