Officials are investigating an outbreak of COVID-19 that has reached 14 people at a Vancouver hospital

Health officials are investigating the COVID-19 outbreak in Vancouver, Washington, where 10 patients and four employees on one floor have tested positive.

Five of the 14 cases at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center have been fully vaccinated, officials said, and patients who have developed symptoms have not.

“While COVID-19 activity has decreased in Clark County in recent weeks, the virus continues to spread and we still have a large portion of our community not immune,” said Dr. Alan Melnick, Clark County Health Officer and Director of Public Health. COVID-19 vaccines are very effective in preventing infection, but they are not perfect.

Clark County has 24,680 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 161 Active cases as of July 15. It was over 230,000 residents Fully vaccinated as of July 12.

Officials said the hospital is temporarily restricting visitors. The floor is also closed to new patients.

Dr. Lawrence Neville, chief medical officer, said infection prevention specialists at PeaceHealth and Clark County Public Health are investigating the outbreak.

“This situation is an unfortunate reminder that while most of our country has fully reopened, this deadly virus remains,” he said.
