Nuno Espirito Santo says Harry Kane staying at Tottenham is ‘great news for everyone’

Kane earlier on Wednesday ended speculation about his future by announcing that he would stay put, despite pressure to move to Manchester throughout the transfer period.

Speaking ahead of Thursday’s Europa League second leg against Bacchus, Nuno responded to the announcement.

“Great news. Great news everyone,” Nuno said. “We are all very happy. One of the best players in the world. We are all glad to have another option this season.

“I think since Harry joined us he’s been working, so that’s what we appreciate. His attitude on the courses has been great. Finished, Harry will be with us.

“It worked today, it’s a choice for tomorrow. Like I said, great news for everyone.”

Kane announced in a statement on social media that he would be staying at Tottenham “this summer” and insisted he was “100%” focused on helping the club achieve success.

Nuno said he was not concerned about the prospect of a new transfer story emerging in January or next summer, with Kane having two years left on his contract, and said there should be no doubt about Kane’s motivations to play for his boyhood club.

I’m not worried at all. “It’s day by day, it’s a choice for tomorrow,” Nonoo said.

“That’s the only thing and that’s my only idea, try to make the best decisions to help the team tomorrow and Harry is one of the options.

“I think it’s up to us and everyone, the player himself, to get his motivation. There shouldn’t be any kind of doubt in terms of motivation to play for Tottenham. A great club, a good team. We are in a process and we need everyone’s participation.”

Kane scored a 20-minute goal in the win over Wolverhampton on Sunday and could make his debut under Nuno at the Backus’ visit on Thursday.
