Murder memo for 16-year-old accused of murdering Zion’s mother reading her daughter’s biblical story

Zion, Illinois – A first-degree murder warrant has been issued for a 16-year-old girl accused of shooting and killing a mother as she reads to her daughter: Bible story last month in Zion.

Authorities believe that his neighbor, Zacharias Miles, 16, left his home at 2800 Block of Enoch Street and began recklessly shooting another person with a rifle on the night of October 17 at about 9 p.m.

Melanie Yates, 23, died the next day after being hit by a stray bullet while reading a Bible story to her daughter.

“She was with her baby reading a story from the Bible to her seven-month-old and praying with her,” Father Sean Calderon said. “You can see that we are struggling with trauma.”

A first-degree murder warrant has been issued for Miles and police believe he is actively working to evade authorities.

Myles is around 5’5, 135 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.

Despite being a minor, the authorities charge him as an adult.

If you are around, don’t come close and call 911.
