Miami hospital nurse posts disturbing photos and comments on NICU Baby on social media – CBS DC

MIAMI (CBS Miami) — A Jackson Health System employee is on administrative leave after disturbing social media posts appearing to mock a baby in a neonatal intensive care unit.

Out of respect for the child and the child’s family, CBS4 has decided not to share the entire photos. Instead, the images have been cropped to show only the captions:

First reading, “My night was great then boom!”

The other reads, “Your gut is set up (sic) to be inside the baby and not outside” and is followed by “#gastroschisis.”

Gastroschisis is a birth defect in the abdomen where the intestines of the baby are exposed.

The posts were posted on accounts belonging to Sierra Samuels, a nurse at JMH.

On her Facebook, she was seen smiling in a hospital uniform.

Jackson Health System told CBS4 News that any potential breach of privacy is taken seriously and that all employees receive privacy policy training on a regular basis.

A statement from a Jackson Health System representative read, “Employees who violate these privacy rules, despite being educated, are subject to disciplinary action including suspension or termination. As soon as we become aware of this potential violation, we immediately place that employee on administrative leave at Waiting for the outcome of the investigation.

Miami litigation attorney David Weinstein said there is a certain expectation of privacy if you are in a private area, particularly in a hospital.

“In addition to the general HIPPA violation that we will look at here, there is a sense of decency toward the rights and expectations we all have in our likenesses,” Weinstein said.

Jackson Health also told CBS4 News that the parent has been notified of the breach.
