Mercy becomes latest St. Louis healthcare system to mandate COVID-19 vaccinations | Corona Virus

Recently, CoxHealth has seen more children hospitalized with COVID-19, said Dr. Kofi Asari Bawa, director of pediatrics at the health system.

Asari Boah said that since June 21, the health system has taken care of nine pediatric COVID-19 patients, when the system previously saw two to four patients a month. The youngest was just over a week old, and the oldest was 18 years old.

“The people we admitted were sicker than those we admitted before,” the doctor said. They needed more help to get enough oxygen.

Boone County has the highest vaccination rate in Missouri but joins the list of Missouri authorities recommending residents to wear masks indoors regardless of their vaccination status.

“It is important that members of the community do everything they can to protect themselves and each other, regardless of their vaccination status. It is especially important to help protect those who cannot get vaccinated, especially children under the age of 12.”

Health officials of Jefferson County, St. Louis, and St. Louis Issued a similar advisory six days ago Where cases of the region and hospitalizations show upward trends.
