Men accused of stealing cell phones during Austin City Limits Festival
AUSTIN (KXAN) – Two men were arrested and charged last week with stealing phones from attendees at the Austin City Limits Music Festival weekend. All phones were recovered, according to Austin police.
The APD says Holman Valbina-Malpika, 35, and Johan Valbina-Malpika, 33, have been charged in connection with the incident.
Police say the majority of the thefts reported over the first weekend of the ACL were related to pick-picking.
“Phones are being swiftly lowered or put in airplane mode to prevent any tracking (such as my iPhone or Google search),” the APD said in a news release. Are strongly encouraged to record the serial number of their device and keep it elsewhere if they need to be referred.
Holman faces two third-degree felony counts of theft from a man and tampering with evidence. Johan is facing charges of illegal use of a criminal device.
Anyone who attended ACL’s Weekend One and lost the phone was asked to report the damage on the ACL’s website. An investigator will contact you if your phone has been recovered.
