Meghan and Harry at crossroads amid ‘difficult choice’ over Lillipet’s christening
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are stuck in limbo over the christening of their daughter, Lillipet Diana.
Harry, who is listed as ‘His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex’ on his daughter’s birth certificate, has raised many eyebrows about his role in public life while confirming with Meghan that they want to keep their daughter away from the media.
Royal expert Daniela Elser has pointed to the controversy over Meghan and Harry’s refusal to name Archie’s godparents after they were christened while they were still full-time senior royals.
She wrote, “In hindsight, dealing with Archie’s christening was a turning point for the couple and you can draw a straight line from that fuss to ‘Megset.'”
Speaking of Lillipet’s christening, Elser continued, “However, should the Sussex family decide to hold the ceremony in California, and thus prevent the Queen, who is no longer traveling internationally, from attending, it would not be seen as anything less than a clear rejection of the royal family.
She added: “There is also a third option here: they decide to skip the baptism altogether. But again, this would also be read as a profound disrespect for Her Majesty given that she is, after all, the head of the Church of England.”
