Manchester United addresses Saul Niguez’s talk of Chelsea transfer – EXCLUSIVE | football | sports

Manchester United have had a good summer transfer window so far.

But, not satisfied with the landings of Tom Heaton, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still eyeing a midfielder.

Over the past 24 hours, bonds with Saul have intensified.

Atletico Madrid are open to parting with the 26-year-old, especially in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

But Express Sport has been reliably told by a club insider that United are not in Saul’s place at the moment, laying out the speculation as “agent talk”.

United are aware of Chelsea’s interest in the Atletico star, who won two La Liga titles during his time in Spain.

“You never know what happens in the world of football. About a week left.

“We had a very good window. We brought in great footballers. Rafael will lift us up a lot, and Jadon will get even better.

“We are happy with what we have done, and then we are working on the field to become a better team.

“We need to get in better shape, there is no doubt about that. There are a lot of people who have played a game and a half. Not many. We are laying the groundwork now, this is a long season.”

Regarding Saul, Diego Simeone previously said he would be generous with any possible departure.

He said: We cannot put aside what is said and talked about.

“If he had to leave, [I’ll] Give him a big hug, and wish him the best of luck with the boys who gave us life and continue to be friends, as always. Either to Barcelona or somewhere else.”

Simeone believes Saul wants to play a more prominent role rather than continue to be an important but versatile option for Atletico.

He added: “Last season, he spoke with the club, with us about his needs and what he talked about is the option of getting a position on the field where he feels more important.”

“And I consider that Saul became Saul by playing all over the place, but he or many of those around him see it as a negative thing.

“He is very important for Atlético because he can play as a right-back and as a midfielder. He gives us a lot of options to be able to count on. He is a player, in this version he plays the way the coach needs, he performs very well.”
