Maher: Democrats used COVID to drive spending they always wanted

On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher discussed spending bills before Congress and said Democrats have used the coronavirus to drive spending they “always wanted” to do, and “it’s a bit like theory, don’t let the crisis go.” You go to the trash.”

Discussing the emergence of the concept that trillions of dollars in spending would not have negative economic impacts, Maher said, “I feel like COVID has changed that. Do you remember that great book, ‘The Shock Doctrine’ by Naomi Klein? Which is kind of like a theory, don’t let the crisis go to waste. We saw how the Republicans did it when 9/11 happened. It was like, OK, we always wanted to invade Iraq again…. And I feel like that’s kind of what the other side did with COVID. I mean, they always wanted to send more checks to people. who have children.”
