This is the worst feeling: the moment you realize that your smartphone is missing.
Panic sets in, and you start searching around you, picking up sofa cushions and stepping back. But wait, did you get it from Uber too? Oh no.
Of course, this is bound to happen at some point, when it is a small device that you take with you literally everywhere. But with some models north of $ 1,500, it would be an expensive thing to lose.
And that’s not a bad thing at all, because the cost of replacing the hardware can be lighter than exposing all of your data – including potentially sensitive information about you (or your company) – if Get it in the wrong hands.

Okay, so don’t go into mourning right now, because there are some things you can do to recover a lost smartphone.
First steps to find your phone
Before we cover the various ways to take advantage of the “Find My Phone” option, your first call to action – when you take a deep breath, of course – is to go to another phone and call your number.
Whether you still have a landline or you need to call a friend or neighbor, dial your number and the bell rings with your fingers.
If it is silent, you can hear it moving on a hard surface.

Thankfully, your smartphone has a built-in feature that lets you search for it on a map, display a message, lock or ring it remotely, erase the data on it, and more.
You will be asked to enable it on your phone setup. Hope you did, but there is only one way to find out.
What it is called may vary slightly depending on the type of phone you are looking for – Find My Phone, Find My Mobile, Find My Device – but the way to find your device will be the same.
How to find your iPhone
If you have another Apple device, such as the iPad or iPod Touch, you can launch the Find My app (on the Apple Watch, it’s called Find Devices), or if you don’t have another Apple device So, go to any web browser and type in iCloud.com/find.
Now type your Apple ID (email address) and password. This must be the same Apple ID associated with your lost iPhone. You can also use the Find My app on a device owned by someone in your family sharing group.
Click the iPhone Finder tab. If you have more than one Apple device, select the name of the missing “Mark iPhone” from the drop-down list at the top of the screen.
You will now see it on the overhead map, represented by a green dot. If it is turned off or offline, or the battery has run out, you will see its last known location.

How To Find Your Android Phone
You have the tools to locate a lost or stolen Android device, such as a Samsung Galaxy or Google Pixel phone.
Go to android.com/find and sign in to your Google Account (top right of the page) for the option to erase your device remotely.
You now have a few options on the left side of the screen:
- Map Timeline: Look at your Android smartphone on a map, and even track its movements. Click on the small “i” icon to see the exact date and time it was last seen.
- Play the sound: After selecting it, the Android phone will play the sound for 5 minutes, even if it is set to silent.
- Secure Device: Clicking or tapping on it will lock your device and sign out of your Google Account. You can also display a message or phone number on the lock screen.
- Delete device: If needed, you can choose to delete all content from this device, but once you do, you can’t find it.
Lastly, if your phone is not really good, it is recommended that you change the passwords of all your online accounts that may be associated with your phone (or the passwords you have entered The phone is marked in the Notes app).
