Los Angeles Mask State is commemorated in memory of Newsom’s order that closed schools
The mask mandate went into effect at 11:59 p.m. Saturday.
On July 17, 2020, Newsom released guidance To reopen schools during the pandemic, which stipulated that in-person learning would only be allowed if a number of criteria were met. At the time, the vast majority of state and state K-12 schools did not meet the procedures that would have allowed in-person education to resume.
Critics of school closures note that many families rely on the support schools provide, including working parents. There were also concerns about disruption to social development and children falling behind their school curricula.
In a tweet on Twitter, schools reopening California schools said Sunday that Newsom’s decision would be taken down as “one of the darkest times in California and US history” as special concerns about children are taken into account.
Republican Assemblyman Kevin Kelly, one of the candidates running for impeachment to replace Newsom in September, said Newsom’s shutdown order did a lot of damage.
“You will be hard-pressed to find any action by any governor that causes more harm or worse causes,” he said.
A Newsom spokesperson did not respond to a Fox News request for comment about the renewed criticism.
School closures were intended as a way to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Such as Previously reported by Fox NewsLast week, Los Angeles County officials announced that they would revive a state that requires masks to be worn indoors regardless of vaccination status due to a “rapid rise” in delta cases.
About 4 million Los Angeles residents are not vaccinated.
California dropped the statewide mask mandate in June as the state fully reopened.
