Liverpool have made an important announcement that could affect Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham
Liverpool Football Club announced that the club’s sporting director, Michael Edwards, is leaving the club.
Edwards has had a huge role in the success of the Reds recently, garnering the likes of Sadio ManeAnd Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson for relatively low fees in recent years.
The transfer expert, who has been at Anfield since November 2016, is now ready to leave the club this summer, a huge loss for Jurgen KloppFor his part, given his impressive commercial acumen in the transfer market.
statement from Liverpool It read: “Today we announced future changes to our football operations leadership structure, with news that Michael Edwards will step down as sporting director at the end of this season.
The 42-year-old has given the club ownership notice of his desire to pursue a new challenge upon the expiration of his contract, allowing for an orderly and carefully managed transfer.
“Julian Ward, currently Assistant Athletic Director, will be promoted following Edwards’ departure, to a higher position. The 40-year-old previously held the position of Director of Loan Management.”
Known as one of the Premier League’s toughest negotiators, Edwards often received hefty transfer fees for marginal players before using those windfall gains in first-team acquisitions.
He was able to sell the likes of Rhian Brewster, Danny Ward and Dominic Solanke for a total of £55.2m despite the trio making seven Premier League starts during their respective tenures with the club.
Arsenal fans have called on the club to hire Edwards As a replacement for current manager Edu in the past, this seems unlikely given that the Brazilian’s summer signings have been crucial for Arsenal on their way to an unbeatable run of their last 10 matches.

With Edwards looking for a new challenge, a move to Newcastle United could be on the table as the new ambitious Magpies owners appear to be looking for a transfer chief in the coming weeks.
However, Eddie Howe said at his unveiling as the new Newcastle United manager that he “knew nothing about Michael Edwards’ future”.
