It’s the playoff match Giants fans have been waiting for for decades: a showdown with the hated Dodgers. This became a possibility in 1995 when MLB established the wild card, but after 26 years of extended supplement format, the California rivals are finally facing off.

The Giants passed the Dodgers to win the NL West title, and they need each of their 107 major league wins to avoid a Wild Card Game. Los Angeles scored in one game round and snatched the St. Louis Cardinals out of the post-season with an exit from Chris Taylor late Wednesday night.

They’ll ride that high, but the Giants have the advantage of four full days of rest after the regular season.

Follow along with our reporters Keri Crowley, Sheena Rubin, Jerry MacDonald, columnist Dieter Kortenbach and other analysts offering their thoughts on Game 1.
