Lily Wachowski reveals why she’s not returning to Matrix 4
The Matrix: Resurrections It will reunite many of the cast members from the original trilogy when it arrives this winter. However, one of the most notable absences is Lily Wachowski, who wrote and directed the first three films with her sister Lana. Now, we finally know why Lana is flying alone in the next installment of the series.
Lilly (via wrap) recently appeared during the TCA panel to deliver the second season of the Showtime series, work in progress, which premiered earlier this week. When asked about ResurrectionShe explained that she was feeling “overwhelmed” by the lack of breaks between her recent filmmaking endeavors, which included atlantic cloudsAnd Jupiter AscendantAnd the first season of Netflix feeling 8-It all worked with Lana. So the idea of taking on a project as big as another one matrix The movie seemed like a huge stress at the time. Furthermore, this feeling of exhaustion also prevented her from working feeling 8the second season.
“My world was somewhat collapsing,” Lily said. “Even when I was, you know, shedding my egg. So this time I needed to be away from the industry. I needed to reconnect with myself as an artist. And I did that back to school and drawing and stuff. And I made that decision. So I started painting that summer with My mom and then Lana got a call from Netflix that they wanted to order another season. And I said, ‘I can’t do that. I don’t want to do that.'”
Lily also shared that Lana clipped the story to Resurrection between the death of their parents, which also played a role in her decision to exit the sequel. Specifically, I felt an urge to move forward with new ideas rather than revisit old ones.
Lilly added, “There was just something about the idea of going back and forth and being a part of something I had done before that wasn’t clearly attractive.” “Like, I didn’t want to go through a transition and go through this massive upheaval in my life, feeling the loss from my mom and dad, to wanting to go back to something I did before and kind of walk the old paths I took, I felt emotionally dissatisfied and really opposite. As if I was going to go back and live in those old shoes somehow. And I don’t want to do that.”
The Matrix: Resurrections It arrives in theaters and HBO Max on December 22.
