  • The 2021 LG Gram 17 is a highly capable laptop with a ton of screen space and an 80Wh battery all day.
  • The LG Gram 17 is reasonably priced, and it’s as light as some 13-inch laptops.
  • The biggest drawback of the LG Gram 17 is that its ergonomics interferes with its design and size.

The 2021 LG Gram 17 continues the Korean company’s efforts to replace the ultra-thin and lightweight laptop, and although this 17-inch model is heavier than its smaller counterparts in its nature, it still Surprisingly light product for size.

This time, the LG Gram 17 is not just a simple ultrabook ایک a specification for thin and light laptops set by Intel and other partners بلکہ but also an Intel Evo certified model. This is a new detail that effectively guarantees faster performance, longer battery life, and better connectivity for both wired and wireless connections. That said, there aren’t many changes from the previous model.

The LG Gram 17 that I tested is the 17Z90P model, which is priced at ، 1,799 and at the moment it looks like LG is the only version of this size. It is on the expensive side of the market for ultra boxes, but comes with hardware inside to match the price. It sits in a position similar to the ever-popular Dell XPS family of advanced ultraboxes.

Design and display.

My first impression of the LG Gram 17 was amazing. A 17-inch laptop may be just as small, but it’s a big shock that it weighs less than three pounds. With thin bezels around the display, it manages a modest footprint and I can still slide it into my bag, which wasn’t designed to accommodate past 17-inch laptops.

LG’s design language is low on this device. While the Dell XPS family may be more shiny with its carbon fiber keyboard deck, the LG Gram 17 goes for a black

Despite its size and thinness, the LG Gram 17 feels quite tough. This applies to most keyboard areas with only a little flex. Part of the display is light, but it’s natural for a large, thin and light display. The laptop’s grip is smooth, holds its position well, and can be used with one hand. The large rubber feet on the base of the laptop also help keep it stable.

Keeping the chassis even thinner, LG has added several ports: two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, a microSD card slot, a lock slot, a 3.5 headset jack, dual

USB-C
4.0 / Thunderbolt 4 ports, and a full-size HDMI port. USB-C ports also act as a power port for charging, narrowing their one-way position a bit. Wireless connectivity also includes Wi-Fi 6 and

Bluetooth
5.1.

The 17-inch IPS (in-plane switching) panel packs in more pixels than ever before with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600. That 16:10 aspect ratio has become popular for production-focused machines, as it is helpful for additional vertical real estate document work. The display is bright and colorful, offering 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 Professional Color Space, although it is still limited to 8-bit color depth.

In my testing, the display is bright enough to be used outside in the sun, albeit only for high contrast tasks such as reading and editing text. At 50 bright flashes, it’s still useful outside on a cloudy day. The experience could have been improved by removing the blur, as the biggest distraction in these bright conditions is the reflection of the bright display.

Specifications

Performance

The LG Gram 17 is as smooth as it is silent. With fast boot up and quick performance in normal use, I haven’t seen it stumble. Even better, even when it has a lot of web pages open in the Chrome browser, it barely gets hot. Not once did I hear the spectators running during my benchmarking.

This model is powered by Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor with Intel Iris X graphics. There may be all the extra space to dissipate heat and run at high speeds, which will keep it cool and calm, leaving the Dell XPS 13 behind in our tests in the same way. LG Gram 17 has an average single core score of 1,520 and multi core cover 4,896 in Geck Bench 5. M1 MacBook Air scores 1,726- and 7,558 points.

The LG Gram 17 easily maintains this consistent performance even at low settings during battery life. The only hiccup I encountered was trying to play one.

HBO Max.
Video in full screen, which is seen only in the upper left of the display. This is probably a problem with HBO Max’s video player, as I haven’t had the same problem on other streaming platforms.

The ability of this laptop to work is clearly stronger than the ability to have fun. It replaces the LG speaker. Yet Burden In place of the top of the laptop, LG placed two 2 watt speakers under the laptop. They are loud enough to listen to solo in a quiet place, but if there is a lot of noise, do not hold it well.

Keyboard and touchpad.

One hand rests on the LG Gram 17 touchpad, which also displays the laptop's keyboard.

The large size of the LG Gram 17 gives it enough space for a full keyboard with a number pad as well as a touchpad. But, LG could have done a much better job of keeping them. The keyboard is still high enough to accommodate the trackpad with about an inch of buffer space on either end of the trackpad, making it a great access to type. Instead of resting my palms comfortably on the surface of the laptop, I see my arms resting on the edge of the laptop, which quickly becomes a pain.

That’s the decent thing to do, and it should end there. LG has used key switches that have a clear pop for them with a 1.6mm trip. Fast typing is still easy, but the soft touch of the keys carries very little risk of typing incorrectly. The keyboard includes white backlighting for easy viewing in the dark, and the backlighting even covers the legend for the secondary functions of the keys.

LG’s touchpad is also a great tool. It provides ample space for sweeping, scrolling, tapping and multi-finger gestures. I can easily get four fingers with space to spread. Mostly it works without any problems, although I have seen many occasions where it seems tangled to scroll with two fingers, as it appears to register as a swipe and only moves the cursor instead of scrolling. Is.

Battery life and webcam.

One of the big promises of LG Gram 17’s EVO certification is that it will have a big battery, and the Gram 17 seems to be making the most of its 80Wh battery. The laptop comes with an impressive lightweight 65W charger. It doesn’t charge the laptop so fast, but once the battery is juiced, it’s ready to go for a long time.

With a few simple ideas, the LG Gram 17 can easily handle 8 hours a day. Through my battery test, the laptop saw its charge between 8 and 12 per hour. The test was performed while working in Chrome, while one tab had a few dozen tabs open with music from YouTube. The system was set to run on a better battery setting with a display at 50% brightness and only Wi-Fi radio was on. After four hours, the battery was completely depleted to 50 to. It lasts up to a full 8 hours on battery, and it can last longer with potentially lower power settings and dimmer displays (note that 50 bright flashes was enough to see outside). I kept the computer running for only 10 hours in total before the battery reached a critical level of 6%, at which point the battery gauge estimated that there was only one hour left to charge, even though it was in battery saver mode. Shifted when it was close to 15% at the 7.5 hour mark

The webcam is less impressive than the battery. Details and color are poor. Everything seems to have a paint-like filter on it, because the image is somewhat flat. That’s enough to get the job done, and thankfully LG stuck the webcam in the upper bezel so the angle isn’t weird, but it’s a useful addition.

Bottom line

The LG Gram 17 is upside down on a table.

The LG Gram 17 could have been much better. A good laptop will marry solid performance and parts that not only look good but also look good. Only part of this equation feels wrong with LG. The large space under the keyboard makes this laptop more difficult to use and less comfortable. This is a problem that can be solved by going with one of the smaller models.

Would you buy it

If you absolutely need all the space on the screen and you don’t need to use the built-in keyboard for most of your work, the LG Gram 17 might be a good option. It certainly has performance and battery for a lot of work, but it’s not suitable for too much typing.

What are your alternatives?

The LG Gram 16 still offers a great display, the same 80Wh battery, and mostly saves for the same internal 256GB solid state drive (SSD) that is much smaller than 1TB of the Gram 17, but the Gram 16 is also clean قیمت 400 discount on price. The small size of the keyboard can also solve the problem of placement.

Alternatively, if you want a ton of performance in a slim and lightweight laptop that can last for hours and hours, Apple’s M1-powered MacBook Air is a strong option and is priced significantly at $ 999. But less It may be a different operating system, but it’s potentially a problem with specific software dependencies, especially workloads.

Profession: Excellent display, excellent performance pair with long battery life, incredibly lightweight for its size, compact for 17-inch laptops, quiet and cool operation, large trackpad, good port selection

Cons: The position of the keyboard is the highest, the glossy screen is an obstacle to external use, poor speaker space, can only plug the charger to the left
