The former England midfielder has agreed to a two-and-a-half-year contract – until June 2024 – and will take charge of the first team for the FA Cup fourth round match against Brentford at Goodison Park on Saturday 5 February.

Lampard’s appointment follows a robust recruitment process with several candidates interviewed by the club’s largest shareholders and the board of directors.

Lampard began managing with Derby County in 2018, and led the Rams to the Championship playoff final that season. He was appointed head coach of the former Chelsea club the following year and helped develop many of the club’s young talents, leading the London side to fourth place in the Premier League and the FA Cup Final in his first season.

The new Everton manager will be supported by an extensively experienced and talented back-team team comprising of Joe Edwards as his assistant manager, Paul Clement as first-team coach and Chris Jones as first-team coach and chief performance officer.

Lampard said: “It is an honor to represent and manage a team of the size and tradition of Everton Football Club. I am very hungry to get started. After speaking to the owner, the Chairman and the Board of Directors, I have felt very much their passion and ambition. I hope they have felt my ambition and how difficult it is to work to unite it .

“You can feel the passion of the Everton fans for their club. That will be very important. As a team – the level of competition that the Premier League brings and the position we are in – we definitely need that. It’s a two-way thing. I think Everton is a unique club where you can Really understand what the fans want to see.The first thing they want is fighting and desire and that should always be our bottom line.

“My first message to the players will be that we have to do it together. We will try to do our job knowing the fans will be there to support us.”
