Kylian Mbappe £176.8 million, the fact that Liverpool may repeat the transfer trick twice this summer

Morning summary for Wednesday, August 24.

Kylian Mbappe, Jurgen Klopp and the truth of the £176.8 million Liverpool deal

Paris Saint-Germain may sell Kylian Mbappe before the transfer window closes as the 22-year-old has turned down contract offers, according to reports in France.

The French player’s current deal expires next summer and the club risks losing him for free, which could prompt them to part with him next week.

Real Madrid, who have been closely associated with the Mbappe move for a number of years, are pushing the club for the move with a €160m offer reported this week.

News of the offer followed rumors that an unnamed club in England had shown a concrete interest in the player.

Despite speculation swirling about the identity of the English club, figures regarding any potential Mbappe deal suggest there is “absolutely no chance” that Liverpool could afford the player – as Jurgen Klopp told reporters last year.

Liverpool may repeat a previous transfer move this summer after Ben Davies and Ben Woodburn left the club on loan.

Since they both see their first team’s chances as limited, selling the duo now means a small profit can be made.

Prior to Rhian Brewster’s £23m move to Sheffield United last summer, the 21-year-old had spent a season with Swansea City and impressed during his time at Liberty Stadium.

Davies recently joined Brewster at Sheffield United on loan for one season, while Woodburn has moved to Scotland to join Hearts for the remainder of the season.

By loaning players now, the Reds may not get back the £23m they paid Brewster, but they will certainly get more than they would have this summer if the duo impress at their clubs.

The minutes could have been few and far between for Davis and Woodburn and it looks like Michael Edwards is repeating a smart move.
