Kruk and Kuip join KNBR radio broadcast
The KNBR radio booth will be a little crowded this weekend in Oracle Park when the Giants host the Dodgers for the first two games of the NL Divisions series.
With the post-season games headed to national television instead of NBC Sports Bay Area, Mike Kroko and Duane Kuiper will join John Miller and Dave Fleming to deliver a four-man radio broadcast of Game 1 Friday night and Match 2 Saturday night between rivals NL West. It’s a familiar setting as Kruk & Kuip joined the radio crew in the past for playoff games when there was no local TV broadcast.
The four announcers have been no strangers since the last time the Giants made the playoffs. Miller and Fleming devoured roles on television broadcasts during regular home matches.
Crocco and Kuiper will not travel to Dodger Stadium for Game 3 on Monday or Game 4 on Tuesday due to health concerns. But Miller and Fleming will cut the trip south, the first time Giants announcers have traveled outside of spring training to cover the team since the end of the 2019 season, as both television and radio broadcasts were based in Oracle Park during the pandemic.
The four-man booth will return for Game 5 if the series gets that far.
On the TBS televised call, Brian Anderson, Ron Darling and Lauren Shehadi will offer a patriotic perspective, but inventive Giants fans looking for familiar sounds can mute their televisions and try to sync the radio call.
