TRAVANANTPURAM: A police officer posted in Chatnoor in Kollam district has been suspended for stealing a mobile phone from the body of a young man who died in a train accident earlier this year.

According to Manorama News, Sub-Inspector Jyoti Sudhakar, who was then posted at Mangalpuram in Trivandrum district, was found using his official number on his youth’s smartphone.

According to the report, Sudhakar allegedly stole the phone from the body of the youth during interrogation.

The body of the youth was found on June 8 this year at Kanyapuram near Mangalpuram railway station.

The incident came to light when the victim’s relatives lodged a complaint at the Mangalpuram police station regarding several missing items, including a mobile phone. By then, Sudhakar had been transferred to the Chatnoor police station in the neighboring district.

Subsequent investigations confirmed that the official number given to Sudhakar was being used on the deceased’s mobile phone.
