JD Martinez is back in the Red Sox lineup for Game 2 of ALDS, and Matt Barnes added to the roster
After being eliminated 5-0 in Game 1, the Red Sox have some good news ahead of Game 2.
Slugger JD Martinez is back in the squad after missing two games with a left ankle sprain he suffered in the regular season final. Martinez will take the DH and reach sixth in the lineup, the lowest he has reached this season.
Martinez, who hit 28 slashes in .286/.349/.518, during the regular season, has not had much success at Tropicana Field this year. He’s 9 for 45 with a .205/.222/.250 slash and hasn’t hit Hummer in 10 games there. Like the rest of the Red Sox, Martinez has yet to face the right Shane Buzz, who will start Game 2 for the Rays.
With Martinez back, Bobby Dalbeck is the oddest man out of the starting lineup as Kyle Schwarber will start from first base.
Here’s the Red Sox lineup for Game 2:
1. Kyle Schwarber 1B
2. Kiké Hernández CF
3. Raphael Davers 3B
4. Xander Bogarts SS
5. Alex Verdugo LF
6. JD Martinez d
7. Hunter Renfrew Rack
8. Cristian Vazquez C
9. Christian Arroyo 2 B
The Red Sox also added right-hand sparring Matt Barnes to the ALDS roster. Barnes, who was the closest team until the last days of August, has allowed two winning rounds over five rounds in six relief games since being removed from the closest inning.
Barnes, who was an All-Star player this season, struggled in his last game against the Rays. On August 10, Barnes allowed four-strokes on two hits, two walks, and two-strokes in just 2/3 runs.
Richards pitched 1/3 of the game in game 1, resting starter Eduardo Rodriguez in the second half. The team announced that Richards has a hamstring injury. By being removed from the ALDS roster, Richards cannot be added to the ALCS roster if the Red Sox advances.
