Do you have trouble hearing your ringer, alarm, or someone on the other end of the phone? Many iPhone users have this complaint, and the solution to your problem is not always clear. Here are some common issues and fixes.

The iPhone ringer or alarm volume is very quiet.

Your iPhone’s Ringer and Alarm volume are interconnected, and you can adjust the two at once by going to Settings> Sounds & Heptics then moving the volume slider under the “Ranger and Alerts” section. When you do this, your iPhone will preview the volume, even when silent mode is busy.

If you can’t hear the ringer of your iPhone at all, there is a good chance that your phone is in silent mode. On the left side of the device (holding iPhone portrait mode) you will find a small switch. When the switch is pushed forward, silent mode is turned off, which means you will hear notifications from your ringer, message alerts, and other apps.

To enable silent mode, flip the switch backwards where all notifications, incoming calls, and messages will be muted. The only exception to this is if you have established an emergency contact that can ignore the silent mode, which means that incoming calls and messages from that person will always make an audible sound.

General iPhone audio very quiet

By default, the volume buttons on the left side of your device will control normal iPhone audio levels, including any music or videos that play and app audio. The only exception to this is if you change the “switch with button” setting under Settings> Sound & Heptics.

Change the general volume of the iPhone.

Pressing these buttons will bring up the volume slider with the speaker icon at the bottom, indicating the normal audio level. It depends on which volume you are switching to, for example, the AirPods or Bluetooth icon for identifying headphones and speakers.

IPhone call volume is very quiet.

You can adjust the volume of someone on the other end of the phone during a call using the volume up and down buttons on the side of your device. During a call, put your iPhone in portrait mode then look to the left of the device.

Press the volume up or down button and you will see a volume slider appear on the screen with the phone icon near the bottom. If the slider is full and won’t add any more, it’s as loud as your iPhone will get in terms of Airpace volume.

We’ve found that older iPhone devices are more comfortable than the latest models, especially the iPhone X and earlier models. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post.

Use speaker mode for silent phone calls.

If you find that the person on the other end of the phone is very quiet even at maximum volume, you can always use speaker mode to increase it further. This allows you to hold the phone at arm’s length and still communicate if you need to keep the handset down while doing something.

During a call, tap “Speaker” followed by “Audio” to enable speaker mode. Other devices around you, such as AirPods or Macs, will also be listed. If you can’t see the “Audio” option because the keypad is on the screen, tap “Hide” to remove it. Use the volume buttons on the side of your device to increase or decrease the speaker volume during a call.

Enable or disable speaker mode on iPhone.

You can disable speaker mode by tapping “Audio” and then selecting the “iPhone” option. If you do not have any other Apple devices or wireless earphones, this option can be labeled “Speaker” and can be turned on and off with a single tap.

Consider using headphones when talking on the phone.

Speaker mode isn’t always ideal, especially if you don’t want everyone to hear you. A better option in these instances might be to use headphones, which also have the added benefit of freeing both your hands.

You can use almost any pair of headphones with a microphone, including wired earphones with a lightning connector that Apple may have included in the box when purchasing your device. Newer iPhones, including the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro, do not come with Lightning headphones in the box, but will work with an older pair that you may have around.

Use AirPods during phone calls.

Most Bluetooth headphones will also work if they have a microphone. You’ll find great results using Apple’s AirPods, which use the best microphones and support automatic switching between devices.

If you’re using a pair of Bluetooth headphones or earphones with your iPhone and the call doesn’t come to them automatically, tap the “Audio” option in the call menu and tap on your headphones.

Tune in to iPhone call audio via accessibility settings.

If you want to make your headphone experience a little more suitable for your hearing, go to Settings> Accessibility> Audio / Visual> Headphone Accommodations and enable headphone accommodation. This allows you to do things like activate the audio tuning feature or promote soft sounds to make them easier to listen to. These options will only work with AirPods or Beats models.

Hearing aids are also integrated with the iPhone.

You can pair Made for iPhone (MFi) hearing aids with your iPhone under Settings> Accessibility> Hearing Devices or add standard Bluetooth hearing aids under Settings> Blue Tooth. To complete this process you will need to follow the pairing instructions provided by your hearing aid manufacturer.

Once set up, you can automatically route calls to your hearing aid under Settings> Accessibility> Touch> Call Audio Routing. Select your hearing aid as the destination and your iPhone will use it whenever it is in range and power on.

You can also choose your hearing aid as an audio destination, just as you would with standard headphones. To do this, tap the streaming button from the control center, lock screen, or playback controls in any app (it looks like a triangle with two circles at the top, below) then turn your hearing aid on the floor. Select as

Hardware issues can be to blame.

If you think your iPhone is generally too quiet, hardware issues may be to blame. This could be a simple case of a speaker that is full of dirt and lint, or a speaker that is completely failing. If you are not sure, you can always ask someone else if your iPhone sounds too cool to them.

This could be due to damage to your iPhone display, but it doesn’t have to be outward damage. Some knocks can cause minor fractures that can take weeks or months to turn into problems.

Unfortunately, it is difficult to repair the speaker alone. Apple may insist on changing the entire front of the device, including the display. If you do not have an AppleCare + protection plan, the cost may be higher than the cost of the device (or your money may be better spent on a new device that will last longer than your old one). ۔

Some independent repair shops may be able to repair for you so it is worthwhile to get a price if possible. Alternatively, you can try to solve this problem by using speaker mode (assuming other speakers on your iPhone also work) or using headphones.
