How to View Your Wi-Fi Password on Windows 11

If you’ve ever connected your Windows 11 PC to a Wi-Fi network, your PC has saved the password for that network. There are several ways you can view these saved Wi-Fi passwords, and we’ll show you how.

View the password for the currently connected Wi-Fi network

To view the password for the Wi-Fi network you’re currently connected to, use an option in the Windows 11 Settings app.

Start by opening the Settings app on your PC. Do this by pressing the Windows + i keys at the same time.

In the settings, from the left sidebar, select “Network and Internet”.

Windows 11 will open a “Network Connection” window. Here, right-click on your wireless adapter and select “Status”.

At the top of the “Wireless Network Properties” window, click the “Security” tab.

You are now in the “Security” tab where you will reveal your Wi-Fi password. To do this, under the “Network Security Key” field, activate the “Show Role” box.

And immediately, the password for your currently connected Wi-Fi network will appear in the “Network Security Key” field.

This way you know which passwords your existing Wi-Fi network uses. Now that you know the password, you can connect other devices to your network, or share the password with your family.

View passwords for pre-connected Wi-Fi networks

Windows 11 saves the passwords of all the Wi-Fi networks you connect to, which means you can retrieve the passwords of any Wi-Fi network you want.

Unlike the above method, there is no graphical method to do so. You will need to use a few commands in Windows Terminal to retrieve passwords for your saved networks.

To get started, first open Windows Terminal on your computer. Do this by opening the “Start” menu, searching for “Windows Terminal”, and clicking on it in the search results.

In Windows Terminal, make sure you have the Command Prompt tab open. If this is not the case or you are not sure, at the top of the Windows Terminal window, click the down arrow icon and select “Command Prompt”.

If you wish, you can change the default shell in Windows Terminal to a command prompt.

In the Command Prompt tab, type the following command and press Enter. This command displays a list of Wi-Fi networks stored on your computer.

netsh wlan show profiles

View a list of saved Wi-Fi networks.

In the list of networks, find the Wi-Fi network for which you want to know the password. Note the full name of the network somewhere.

Search the Wi-Fi network to see the password.

In the same command prompt tab, type the following command and press enter. In this command, replace “HTG” (without quotes) with the full name of your Wi-Fi network.

netsh wlan show profile name="HTG" key=clear | find /I "Key Content"

Find the Wi-Fi network password in Windows Terminal.

In the output displayed in your Command Prompt tab, the value next to “Key Content” is the password for your specific Wi-Fi network.
