How to use filters and masks in Google Mate
Filters and masks are a great way to jazz video calls. Most popular video calling apps have these features, including Google Mate. We’ll show you how to lighten up your next video call with these exciting effects.
Google Mate filters and masks are available for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. They are basically the same effects that are available in Google Pair. Let’s begin.
First, you’ll need to join a video call with Google Mate on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device. You can initiate or join the call yourself.
Note: As of this writing in July 2021, you will not be able to use this feature in the web version of Google Mate.

Once you make a call, tap the effects icon from your video preview.
At the bottom of the screen are a few different types of effects. You can blur the background or use a virtual background. “Styles” change color and shape. One of the things we are interested in is “filters”.
There is a group of filters and masks to choose from. Some put things on your body, some hide your face, and some completely hide everything from you. Just tap on one to see it.
When you find a filter of your choice, tap the “X” icon to turn off the effects and return to the call.
That’s all there is to it! You can easily switch between these effects when you make a call. It’s fun to play with these filters, especially if you have kids who have trouble being interested in video calls.
