How to enable Dark Mode in YouTube

YouTube’s Dark Mode provides an easy-to-see experience. This is especially good when watching videos in the dark or at night. YouTube’s Dark Theme is available on the YouTube website and in YouTube’s mobile apps for iPhone, iPad and Android.

Enable Dark Mode on the web.

On YouTube’s desktop website, click on your profile icon in the upper right corner of the page. Then select the “Appearance: Device Theme” option in the menu.

If you’re not signed in, click the menu button (it looks like three vertical dots). You’ll find the same “Appearance: Device theme” option here.

By default, YouTube will follow theme settings throughout your computer system. Select “Dark Theme” from the following page. This setting only applies to your existing web browser, so you’ll need to enable Dark Theme on every computer you use – it’s not compatible with your Google Account.

To undo this change, re-click your profile picture or the three-button menu button, select “Appearance: Dark” and “Use Device Theme” (if your computer system is using Wide Lite mode ) Or select “Light Theme”.

For full Dark Mode on your desktop, enable Dark Mode in your Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge browser. You can also enable the Dark theme in Gmail. You can also enable the built-in dark mode of Windows 10.

Enable Dark Mode on iPhone and iPad.

The YouTube app for iPhone and iPad also has its own dark mode option. To enable it, open the app and tap on your profile icon in the upper right corner of your screen.

Next, tap “Settings” at the bottom of the menu that appears.

Select "Setting" Options below the menu.

Select the “General” option.

Finally, toggle on “Dark Theme”.

To reuse YouTube’s Normal Light theme, go back to this submenu and toggle the “Dark Theme” slider.

Enable Dark Mode on Android.

Like other platforms, the YouTube app for Android follows theme settings throughout your device’s system. But if you don’t want everything on your Android phone or tablet to be in dark mode, you can manually turn it into a YouTube app.

Get started by opening the app on your Android device and tapping your profile picture in the upper right corner of the screen.

Next, select the “Settings” option at the bottom of the menu.

From there, select “General”.

Select “Appearance” from the list of options. This is the menu where you can choose between dark and light themes.

The “Use device theme” option will be highlighted by default. Select “Dark Theme” to quickly change the YouTube app’s interface.

Go back to the Appearance menu whenever you want to go back to the Light Theme!
