Hoddle sees Rice’s trait in the Tottenham star who played the ‘best’ game for Tottenham

Glenn Hoddle has claimed that Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp displays some of the qualities that have made people sit up and take notice of Declan Rice in recent seasons.

Skip He played the starring role with Tottenham in Thursday’s 2-0 Premier League victory above Brentford. While Son Heung-min stole the show with a goal and decisive entry in the second, his fellow midfield mate was also key.

Not only did he recover the ball and make tackles throughout, he was looking forward to captaining Antonio Conte’s Spurs squad.

In doing so, Skip played some great passes for the likes of Son and Harry Kane. In the meantime, his all-around influence has allowed his midfield partner, Pierre-Emile Hojberg to advance.

Hodel said Amazon Prime Video Sport: “I thought Oliver Skipp today was his best match I’ve seen for Tottenham.

“I thought he was devastating, he was making tackles, winning balls but playing forward.

“And I think that’s how Tottenham play with Conte, they play a little bit faster.”

Indeed, while analyzing one of Skip’s highlights, former Tottenham midfielder Hoddle compared him to the West Ham and England midfielder Rice.

In the clip, Skip stepped forward and played a neat through pass in front of the Brentford defense to Kane.

“There are times I’ve seen him play and he’s a little frustrated, stepping back and back first. But he’s growing as a player, he’s only 21, and he’s moving forward,” said the critic.

“We’ve seen Declan Rice play that kind of run and play that ball when he plays for England.

“Immediately, when he is in possession, he looks forward, covers the ground when there is space there. He becomes more confident in the ball, and hits the players.”
