Here’s a hand gesture that can alert others that you need help as you did with a teenage girl in Kentucky who police say is being held against her will

The Canadian Women’s Foundation says you should communicate with the person safely – this does not necessarily mean contacting the authorities. Reaching safely may mean calling the person and asking questions that can be answered with “yes” or “no”, to reduce the risk to them if someone is listening in on their conversations. Or you may want to contact them via text, email, or messaging app, and ask general questions in case their device is being monitored.
