“Dead Boy Detectives” pilot in HBO Max The main cast found, diverse I learned exclusively from the sources.
George Rextrow, Jaden Rivery (“The Lodge”) and Cassius Nelson (“Last Night in Soho” and “Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events”) will star in the three main roles. Rexstrew is a recent graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, and “Dead Boy Detectives” will celebrate his on-screen debut.
Based on the DC Comics characters created by Neil Gaiman, the one-hour series will follow the Dead Boy detectives – Charles Rowland (Revere) and Edwin Payne (Rextro) – who decide not to enter the afterlife in order to survive on Earth and investigate crimes involving the supernatural. . They are joined by Crystal Palace (Nelson), a living psychic.
Additionally, sources say the cast also includes: Alexander Calvert (“Supernatural”, “Arrow”) as Thomas the Cat King; Briana Cuoco (“The Flight Attendant,” “Harley Quinn”) as Jenny, described as a punk butcher and confidant of Crystal Palace; Jane Lyon (“claws”, “justified”) has also been described as a witch obsessed with youth and immortality; Yuyu Kitamura (“Expat”, “mother tongue”) as Niko, a boarding school student bent on joining the Dead Boy detective agency who now lives above Jenny’s butcher shop; and Ruth Connell (“Supernatural,” “For the Love of George”) who will play the Night Nurse, the demon who controls the flow of souls in the afterlife. Connell previously played this character on the HBO Max-DC series “Doom Patrol”.
Representatives for HBO Max and WBTV declined to comment on the cast.
Sebastian Croft and T. Tennant played Roland and Payne respectively in the third season of Doom Patrol, while Madelaine Horcher played Ballas. None of these three are related to the pilot.
Steve Yuki writes and produces the pilot that diverse Exclusively reported in September. Jeremy Carver is also an executive producer. Greg BerlantiSarah Schechter and David Madden will executive produce via Berlanti Productions. Warner Bros. Television is the studio. Production is currently underway.
Carver developed “Doom Patrol” for television and also serves as a showrunner and executive producer on that series. He and Yockey previously worked together on Supernatural, another WBTV production. Berlanti Productions is also producing “Doom Patrol” with the company under a rich overall deal in WBTV.
If “Dead Boy Detectives” makes its way to the series, it will be Gaiman’s latest work for a screen adaptation. Starz is currently airing “American Gods,” while Netflix recently released the final season of “Lucifer” and is preparing a series adapted from “The Sandman.” Gaiman currently has a package deal on Amazon, with this operator streaming the serialized version of “Good Omens.” A second season is on its way to this show while Amazon is also preparing for a series based on Gaiman’s “Anansi Boys.”
