Google Search Console reports data loss.

Google reports that data was lost in the search console in August. As a result, you may see a decrease in your performance reports.

This issue affects search and discovery data collected on August 23 and 24.

SEOs should include an explanation in their reports on data loss, otherwise it seems that performance has significantly decreased in these dates.

Make sure this issue only affects Search Console reports. It does not affect the actual performance of the website in search and discovery.

Google has confirmed this on the Search Console Data Anomalies page, which reads:

August 23-24 (Search, Discover)
An internal issue lost data in search and discovery performance during this period. Users may notice a significant lack of data in their performance reports during this period. It does not reflect a decrease in clicks or impressions for your site, only the data in the search console is missing.

There is no indication from Google that the lost data will ever be returned, so it is best to assume that it is OK.

The problem seems to have been resolved and the search console has returned to normal data collection.

However, if there are long-standing issues, Google will definitely keep everyone informed.
