Google has announced the availability of Flutter V2, the second generation of the company’s open-source UI toolkit, almost four years after the project’s initial release in May of 2017. With this release, Google has significantly broadened the scope of Flutter’s development reach.

Back in 2017 Google’s intention for Flutter was to enable developers to implement iOS and Android applications of a singular codebase and with one programming language. With the release of V2, this capability expands to allow for deployment on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, Linux, and the web.

Given the open-source nature of Flutter, this announcement is no surprise to developers currently utilizing V1 and even with the official version iteration complete some desktop features still exist in an early-release state. Make sure to check out the full announcement for additional details.
