Gogglebox star Andy Michael dies at 61

Gogglebox star Andy Michael has died at the age of 61.

Channel 4 confirmed the sad news on Friday morning.

In a statement they shared on Twitter, they said, “We are deeply saddened to share Gogglebox star Andy Michael’s death at the age of 61 after a short illness. Our thoughts are with his family at this time. We will truly miss Andy. By the entire Gogglebox family, cast and crew.”

The family first appeared on Gogglebox in the first episode in 2013, but announced in 2014 that they were leaving because Michael was running for Ukip in the general election.

After he fails to secure Hastings and Rye’s seat, the family returns for future episodes.

“We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Gogglebox star Andy Michael at the age of 61 after a short struggle with illness,” said a statement carried by the Palestinian News Agency.

Andy passed away last weekend with his family at his side.

Retired hotelier Andy, who brought a lot of intelligence and insight to Gogglebox, was one of the original cast members on the show, appearing in the first episode in 2013.

“Beloved father to Katie, Alex, Pascal and Louis and beloved husband Caroline, Andy has been a beloved and respected member of the Gogglebox family, and will be sorely missed.

“Our love and thoughts are with Caroline and the entire family. The family has asked for privacy at this very sad time.”

Earlier this week, it was announced that Gogglebox star Mary Cook has passed away at the age of 92.
